my daily schedule: wake up at 3 pm. play warcraft on my computer for a hour or so. get dresed, eat. mabye spend a little time outside, such as walking the dog. Eat dinner (lunch for me) with my parents. play more videogames, watch late night TV (adult swim has me hooked) stay up until an avarge of 4:30 AM repeat.
Now this has been a sad existence for the last couple weeks, as most of my freinds have left: (richard, I kept calling you about poker, where are you? we played $10 with a shitload of chips(about $45 each) and rego, I thought you had a lisence, you drove a lot in san diego. I cant believe they kicked you out- do you think you look that young?)
I'm really looking forward to college. Itll give me a better schedule, more exercise, and something to do. BUt in the meantime....
Im finnaly getting some work experience that I wanted. After Katrina, the redcross called my mom, who as a psychologist, was called after the world trade center attack to do consuling for first response units over the phone, to do more shrinking over the phone. RIght now, she sits in with a call/computer center in red cross oakland headquarters, basicly just debriefing volunteers who get overwhelmed and handling callers who are mentaly disturbed. She somehow noticed that I know how to use a computer.... and asked me to come in and see if I could do it. I spent an evening there, mostly standing around waiting, part of the time eating (there is an on site chef, and nabisco seems to flood the red cross with small unhealthy snacks), getting training for the call center, and filling out an excel spreadsheet of a sign up list.
So I come back today, and do more of the same. I fill out excel sheets, and listened in on a few calls to finish my taining. I can't understand a southren accent. I think I'd have a lot of trouble with the position, except that all the aldults who I listened in on are fairly bad at using computers. The first lady had been putting in named backwards for every client case she opened until I corrected her. But shes been working for three days. Thats probably about a hundred people who case workers down the line will not really be able to track them down, or people searching for them wont be able to search for them (unless they guess at the mistake). Well, its probably not that bad- most of the people who called a few days ago just needed to get to a shelter to get food, and now all they wnat is money, so we direct them to a different line for financial services (except for this one guy who had a back problems, ran out of meds, and couldnt get around- except every drugstore in Louisiana is refilling medications for free. The guy awnsering the phone I was listining into thought it was a bad idea.) I couldn't get over watching people not be natural when using computers. It just seems like almost everyone our age knows how to use a computer reasonably well... at least becuase we are all in college, and if you're like me, a sheltered enviroment. I wish it were possible to just imbue my parents with the ability to be natural at using a computer.
Christ, I can't even remember what I was typing about. My point was going to be that working at the red cross fit my wierd sleep schedule well. I go in around 4 and leave around 10. Crap. Need to go back to school. Im coming down the 18th.
